Bridge damage identification based on theory of nonlinear perturbation

Ivana Mekjavić, Jure Radić

Abstract

A numerical procedure, based on the non-linear perturbation theory, is described. Eigenfrequencies are used in the procedure, and the damaged-structure eigenvectors do not need to be known. The efficiency of the numerical procedure in determining the level of damage is demonstrated through an example of the realized concrete girder bridge with simulated damage and, for the first time, through laboratory testing of a freely leaning model of a reinforced-concrete beam subjected to various levels of static load.
